Step 1 - Making your booking

Booking your first online doctor consultation

Booking is super quick, with instant confirmation. Just follow a few simple steps and you could be chatting with a doctor today!

  1. Start by clicking 'Book Bettr'.
  2. Select a doctor, date and time that suits you. You can always cancel or re-schedule later.
  3. You can book for yourself, or for a family member too, just let us know who you're booking it for
  4. Add your name, email and date of birth. If you're a Tamaki Health patient please enter the same as your enrolled details
  5. Provide a handful of additional details including a short description of why you are seeing the doctor. 
  6. Choose to pay either by credit, debit or by bank transfer. Enter your payment details and you're all booked.
  7. To make things quicker during your appointment you can choose to enter additional details now including your existing GP and your address if you wish.

Step 2 - Attending your appointment

Join your online doctor consultation

To be able to attend your appointment you will need a smartphone, tablet or laptop with a camera and a good internet connection.

We'll send you an email and SMS confirmation with appointment details

You'll get a reminder email and SMS just before your appointment is due to start

Tap the link and join the virtual waiting room.

The doctor will admit you and your appointment begins.

Your appointment lasts up to 10 minutes.

When your appointment ends simply close your window.

Step 3 - After your appointment

Online prescriptions, referrals and medical certificates.

During your consultation the doctor may discuss next steps. Next steps may include receiving a prescription, a medical certificate, a specialist referral appointment, or an in-person consultation. 

If you require a medical certificate or a referral the doctor will email this to you following your consult. Please note this can take up to an hour. 

If the doctor prescribes you medication during your consultation, you will receive an SMS. Choose between home delivery or browse to find your most convenient pharmacy for pick-up. If you opt for home delivery, you can choose a time that suits you and the pharmacy will be in touch to arrange this; or if you opt to pick up, the pharmacy will give you a time to collect your medication. Pick-up is free and delivery is just $5.

If you require face to face treatment or an in-person follow up after your online consult, you can be referred to one of our Local Doctor or White Cross clinics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kinds of problems or care need are not suitable for online consultation?

    Medical emergency symptoms such as sudden or severe shortness of breath, chest pain, loss of consciousness, lacerations, broken bones, traumatic head injury, vomiting or coughing up blood, overdoses, suicidal intent, severe headache, severe burns, and severe bleeding are not suitable for online consultation. Please call emergency services on 111 for these situations. Additionally, initial ACC assessments require an in-person clinic visit.

  • How long is the appointment?

    Standard appointments are up to 10 minutes of face time with the clinician, with additional time allocated for notes and follow-up tasks.  

  • What happens if I need more time?

    If you have a complex issue or several things to discuss, the clinician may recommend booking a second appointment during your consultation.

  • Can I cancel or change my appointment?

    Yes, you can typically cancel or change your appointment with sufficient notice. Please refer to our booking or confirmation details for our cancellation policy.

  • Can I see a male/female Doctor?

    Yes, you can often select a male or female Doctor when booking, subject to availability.

  • Where are the Clinicians based?

    Our clinicians are New Zealand-registered medical professionals.

  • What happens if I need a follow up?

    If a follow-up is needed, the Bettr clinician will discuss the best options with you, which may include another online consultation or an in-person visit to a clinic.

  • Can I get controlled drugs prescribed through Bettr?

    No, we do not prescribe controlled drugs through Bettr under any circumstances. Prescriptions for controlled drugs require an in-person consultation.

  • What happens if there’s a technical problem?

    If you experience a technical problem during your consultation, please try to reconnect. If the issue persists, contact our customer support team, and we will work to find a solution, which may include rescheduling your appointment or offering a phone consultation.
